Avocado Chocolate Pudding (recipe)

How do you satisfy your sweet tooth? Do you sneak in store bought ice cream, cookies and chocolate and then feel lousy about cheating on your clean eating lifestyle? There is no need to constantly depriving yourself! If your diet is clean most of the time, then there is room for some sweet goodness. What’s life worth without a little chocolate? Like any sane person, I love snacks and treats but I don’t just reach for that crappy chocolate bar! To stay on track I make sure my snacks meet a certain criteria. I look for super healthy and homemade treats made with clean ingredients that taste decadent without packing on the pounds.

This avocado chocolate pudding makes a silky treat, takes 1 minutes to make and is packed with superfood ingredients that will not only squash your sweet craving but also provide beneficial fat and nutrients (ok, also a bit of natural sugar from the bananas and dates). Eating a small portion of this pudding might not make you a superhuman but will get you in a habit of replacing junk with high quality foods that are good for your body (and mental health, hey, no more put downs about your lack of willpower!).

What’s so great about it?

Fat makes us fat, right? Wrong! Healthy fats from avocados can actually help you lose weight as they nourish your body (and brain!) and reduce cravings for sweets by providing a feeling of fullness. Great for your heart, avocados reduce levels of LDL in the blood as well as oxidative stress in the bloodstream. They are high in fiber (hello great digestion), Vitamin K (strong bones), Vitamin E and C (antioxidants) and carotenoids (anti-inflammatory) as well as numerous other nutrients (magnesium, potassium, copper). So look beyond the guacamole and make this creamy rockstart fruit a staple in your diet (research shows that people who regularly eat avocados also eat more fruits and vegetables!). Blend it in your morning shake or top it with shrimp or wild salmon for satisfying, super efficient meal in a pinch.

Raw chocolate powder is a frequent ingredient in my snacks for a good reason, it not only tastes fab but is rich in minerals like magnesium, providing a sense of wellbeing as well as a burst of energy.

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 tbs raw cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • pinch salt
  • berries and cacao nibs for garnish optional
  1. Place all ingredients in a powerful blender like the Vitamix, slowly increase speed to to high, using the tamper to press the ingredients into the blades. Blend until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.
