If you are curious about food, living well and taking charge of your health you have come to the right place.
Here is a bit about me. I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Coach, focused on anti-aging nutrition therapy, including weight loss, food sensitivities and digestive concerns. I am a wellness warrior, obsessive researcher, recovering worrier and manager of the universe – aka control freak, lover of smoothies and all things chocolate, seeker of more peace of mind in this hectic world. Mom of two very cute spirited picky eaters, wife, lover of a good party, spa days and tropical vacations.
As a health and nutrition coach, I’ve dedicated my life to helping people just like you—women who want to make a change to a healthier way of nourishing body and mind. Over the years, extensive study, training and obsessive research into diet, nutrition and holistic philosophies have taught me a great many things about how the foods we eat can either harm or heal us—and I’m now ready to share that knowledge with you.
Of course, I didn’t always eat clean. Like most, my love affair with bread and sugar started in childhood, when dessert was my favorite meal of the day. Later in life, coffee and alcohol joined the party. And while not exactly a regular at McDonald’s, my diet was nutrient poor and sugar rich. Always lacking time, I mostly just foraged from my kids’ plates—and let’s face it, their diet did not earn me the “Mom of the Year” award. It never seemed like a big deal because I didn’t think of food as medicine or as something that could influence my health or emotional well- being. I was too busy with a corporate career, marriage and two kids to think about self-care, good nutrition, exercise and common sense.
Poor eating habits and chronic stress eventually left me physically and emotionally exhausted. Digestive issues and chronic fatigue were a constant struggle so motivated to change my health for the better, I began an elimination diet and discovered I had gluten sensitivities. I removed gluten permanently and started taking better care of myself. After six months, my digestive issues were gone, and my joint pain and chronic fatigue had disappeared. I felt so much better. You might call it my “Aha” moment, born slowly over the years, not overnight—but it eventually transformed how I live my life and care for my family. Wanting to learn more, I made the scary decision to quit my corporate job. I then began researching and reading all I could about alternative medicine. I enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the world’s largest holistic nutrition school, which exposed me to over one hundred dietary theories, truly opened my eyes to problems with today’s food and health care systems, and inspired me to become a health coach.
Today my family and I follow the 90/10 approach to eating and living. This means that 90 percent of the time we nourish ourselves with fresh, unprocessed whole foods. This allows us to indulge in a little naughtiness 10 percent of the time. In my case, once I replaced the sugary, processed stuff with organic, live food, my cravings for sweets disappeared. And let’s not forget how food can influence health. What we eat can heal us just as effectively—if not more so—than any lab-manufactured drug.
So that’s my story. If it resonates with you, I hope you’ll visit this blog regularly for inspiration, information and resources to help you live with food sensitivities, nourish and heal your body, care for your family, create meals from clean, whole foods, and embrace a more joyful, satisfying and peaceful life.
With love and Zen,
